This is a curated list of tools and services that I highly recommend for founders looking to jump start their companies. Most of these tools are from my own experience working in startups. This is a living document and updates will be made accordingly either from myself or from the rest of the community.

I'm sure there'll be haters out there who believe in other "better" tools, and that's okay. These tools/services are simply recommendations and it's up to the founders to make the final decisions.

If you have any questions or have suggestions on other tools, feel free to contact me or even comment on this page.

Enjoy!

Note: I am not sponsored, nor am I affiliated with any of these companies.

Communication

Slack

The one-stop shop communicator. I love this tool. It's been my go-to in-house communicator since I begun working in the States. It's a favorite among the startups and has a powerful ecosystem of integrations you can plug in, ranging from Jira and Github/Gitlab, to Google Drive and Dropbox. It's certainly a tool to foster effective synchronous comms in real-time.

Video Conferencing

Zoom

Nothing really to say here. It's become the de-facto standard for video conferencing in the startup community. It has a freemium model and goes from there. New features are continually being integrated. Video quality is standard, but I would like to hope that they're working on improving this over the next year as the world quickly moves to a hybrid work model, and quality conferencing features are a must!

People Management

Pingboard

This tool isn't for all startups. But if you the founder, begin to experience significant employee growth at your company, then this might be a handy tool to manage and get visibility on all members of the various teams under your leadership. It's also a nice tool to effectively onboard new folks and enable transparency so others in your organization are able to identify new faces, their background, position and skillset easily. It has a 14-day trial.
